Diabetes care in Chiang Mai — ongoing management, not a procedure

Most medical-tourism pages sell you a surgery: fly in, fix, fly out. Diabetes is the opposite kind of medicine — a chronic condition that needs a clinic that knows you, quarterly labs, and a pharmacy that always has your medication. That is exactly the kind of care Thailand quietly does well for people who live here, and this page is the map of who actually states a diabetes/endocrine clinic in Chiang Mai — read from each hospital's own website, with the source attached.

The word to know

เบาหวาน (bao wan — literally "sweet urine") is diabetes. The department you want is ต่อมไร้ท่อ (tom rai tho, endocrine — the same clinic handles thyroid and hormones), usually inside อายุรกรรม (ayurakam, internal medicine). Say "clinic bao wan" at any hospital information desk and you will be pointed correctly.

Who states a diabetes/endocrine clinic, on their own page

Everything below was read from each institution's own website on 2026-08-26. A hospital that is absent here is not a "no" — it just hasn't said it anywhere a fetch can read.

Sriphat Medical Center (ศูนย์ศรีพัฒน์) — the university option

The private wing of Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Medicine. Its services page lists ระบบต่อมไร้ท่อ (โรคเบาหวาน, ไทรอยด์) — an endocrine clinic for diabetes and thyroid, described as being for chronic disease "requiring continuous treatment," which is the phrase you want to see. Floors 2–3 of the outpatient building. It names four endocrine specialists on the same page.

McCormick Hospital (โรงพยาบาลแมคคอร์มิค) — the mission hospital

States a department of Endocrinology and Metabolism (อายุรกรรมโรคต่อมไร้ท่อและเมตะบอลิสม) covering thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, diabetes, obesity, calcium and osteoporosis.

Rajavej Chiang Mai Hospital (โรงพยาบาลราชเวช) — the FMP-fluent one

States a คลินิกต่อมไร้ท่อ (endocrine clinic), Mondays 17:00–19:00, inside a general internal-medicine department open daily 08:00–20:00. Rajavej is also the Chiang Mai hospital that publishes its own TRICARE and VA Foreign Medical Program page with a named desk — if you are a US veteran managing diabetes under FMP, this combination matters more than any brochure. Hugsa Medical, Klang Wiang (ฮักษา กลางเวียง) — the clinic-sized one

Not a hospital: a general clinic inside the old city with its own คลินิกเบาหวาน ไทรอยด์ ต่อมไร้ท่อ page — diabetes, thyroid, endocrine — open daily 10:00–18:00. For routine follow-ups and labs without a hospital's queue, a clinic that publishes a diabetes page of its own is worth knowing.

Nakornping Hospital (โรงพยาบาลนครพิงค์) — the public route

The provincial public hospital states specialist internal-medicine clinics including โรคเบาหวาน — diabetes — by appointment only (รับเฉพาะนัด). Public-hospital pricing, public-hospital queues; the clinic exists and says so.

Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai — reported, but unreadable

A diabetes centre at Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai is reported to exist, but the hospital's site renders nothing readable to a fetch, so we will not put words in its mouth. Call 1719 and ask for the diabetes clinic.

The ongoing-care checklist

What turns a visit into a care relationship, whichever one you pick:

1. Bring your records. Your latest HbA1c, medication list, and any complications history. The Thai word for treatment history is ประวัติการรักษา (prawat kan raksa). Flying in with your supply — insulin in carry-on, prescriptions in your name — has its own rules: the airport medication page. 2. Ask for an itemised receipt — แยกรายการ (yaek rai kan) — every visit. It is what an insurer, FMP, or your accountant will actually read. 3. Veterans: FMP reimburses service-connected care abroad — benefits letter first, then the provider files or you do. Inference — pharmacies in Chiang Mai routinely stock common oral diabetes medications, and hospital pharmacies dispense insulin; bring your prescription and generic (molecule) name, not your home brand name — the same lesson as our estradiol page.
